Reviews
This book is a very large collection of classical music scores with some musical passages highlighted in white (over a grey tone) for emphasis of some key themes. The scores are very readable and are suitable for an in depth study of compositions. The scores are detailed and often include notes on which instruments are meant to play which passages (in other words this is not a "fake book" where the scores are transcribed to the key of C or another simplified scale with a melody and/or bass line only). What is amazing is how thick this book is, having over 1000 pages of composition (1093 pages to be precise). Included are Debussy: "The Afternoon of a Faun", Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue, Glass: Floe, Davidovsky: Synchronisms No.1 for Flute and Electronic Sounds, Mendelssohn: Overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream, Brahms: 4th Movement from Symphony No.2 in D major, Tchaikovsky: excerpts from The Nutcracker (March, Arabian Dance, and Dance of the Toy Flutes), and Mahler: 4th movement from Symphony No.4. There are 39 entries in the table of contents, a glossary, an appendix of instrument abbreviations, and an appendix on how to read a musical score.
